Colossians Chapter 3

New Testament / Epistle to the Colossians / Chapter 3

1-4 If you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, you shall also appear with him in glory.

5-7 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil sexual desires, and covetousness, which is idolatry. For the wrath of God is coming on the children of disobedience, in which you also walked in times past when you lived in them.

8-11 But now you also are to put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, and filthy communication out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him, where there is neither Jew nor Greek, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

12-17 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility of mind, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a quarrel against another, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you are called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

18 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.

20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.

21 Fathers do not provoke your children to anger, lest they become discouraged.

22-25 Servants, in all things, obey your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in the sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatsoever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. But he who does wrong shall reap for the wrong he has done, and there is no respecter of persons.
