Thessalonians Chapter 5

New Testament / First Epistle to the Thessalonians / Chapter 5

-10 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I write to you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. When they shall say Peace and safety, sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief. You are all children of light and the children of the day. We are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober. For they who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk are drunk in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

Therefore comfort one another and edify one another, just as you also do.

-13 And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

-15 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, and be patient toward all men. See that no one renders evil for evil to any man, but always follows that which is good, both among yourself and all men.

-18 Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything, give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

-22 Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Prove all things; hold fast to that which is good. Abstain from all appearances of evil.

-24 And I pray that the very God of peace will sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is faithful who called you, who also will do it.

Brethren, pray for us.

Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.

I charge you by the Lord that this epistle is read to all the holy brethren.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
