Revelation Chapter 9

New Testament / Book of Revelation / Chapter 9

1-6 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven to the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the hole, as the smoke from a massive furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And they were commanded not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only harm those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. But they were ordered not to kill any man, only to torment them five months, and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. And in those days men shall seek death, but shall not find it. They shall desire to die, but death shall flee from them.

7-11 And the shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. They had hair like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. They had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of many chariots and horses running to battle. They had tails like scorpions, and there were stingers in their tails. Their authority was to hurt men for five months. And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew language is Abaddon, and in Greek, he has the name Apollyon.

12 One woe is past. And behold, two more woes are coming hereafter.

13-19 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar before God, saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, Release the four angels who are bound in the great river the Euphrates. And the four angels were released, who were prepared for an hour and a day and a month and a year, to slay the third part of men. And I heard the number of the horsemen's army, and it is two hundred million. I saw the horses in the vision and those who sat on them, having breastplates of fire, jacinth, and brimstone. The horses' heads were as the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire and smoke and brimstone. By these three, the third part of mankind was killed by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone, which came out of their mouths. For their power is in their mouths and in their tails; and their tails are like serpents, having heads; and with them, they do injure.

20-21 But those who were not killed by these plagues would not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. Neither did they repent of their murders nor of their sorceries nor of their sexual immorality nor of their thefts.
